Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 Delivers the Web the Way You Want It
The Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 Active Channel technology is a key component
of the Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 vision - delivering "The Web the way
you want it." Active Channel-based content offer a leap beyond today's
static Web pages, providing personalized delivery of interactive, exciting
content.
Microsoft's Active Channel partners are leading Internet content providers
designing their content and Web sites to take advantage of innovative new
standards-based functionality in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, including
Dynamic HTML and webcasting based on the channel definition format (CDF), a
proposed industry standard. With Dynamic HTML, publishers of Active Channel-based
content can create more interactive Web pages whose colors, images, text styles,
data and 2-D positioning can change and animate quickly based on user
interaction. Corporations can also build Active Channel-based content for use on
corporate Intranets or extranets. Active Channel-based content is optimized for
delivery using CDF, enabling users to easily choose the content they want
delivered to their Active Desktop, screen saver, e-mail and more. The extensive
list of Active Channel partners announced today includes the previously
announced business partners that will be included in the Microsoft Internet
Explorer Administration Kit.
New Opportunities for Content Providers
Microsoft Internet Explorer, the world's fastest growing browser, is providing a
new opportunity for content providers. Publishers of Active Channel-based
content cite Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0's support for the broadest range of
Web publishing technologies, including HTML 4.0, Java™, CDF, Dynamic HTML and
ActiveX™ technologies as well as the wide availability of development tools
and support, as reasons for working with Microsoft. Offering personalized Active
Channel-based content allows Web content developers to build a continual
relationship with their customers. New information is webcast directly to users
regularly, keeping the content developer constantly in touch with the customer.
Availability
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 is currently available for free download (connect-time
charges may apply) in a Preview 2 edition announced today. (Please see
accompanying press release for additional details).
